In her May 31 letter, “Bicyclists ride at a disadvantage” Lillian Christina ended with the statement, “I don’t know what the rule or law would be; I only know that cyclists are at a disadvantage on our roads.” The writer should be aware of the laws of the road if she drives a car as cyclists are mandated to follow those same laws.
Maybe one of the parts of the law that cyclists don’t pay attention to is stopping at stop signs and arterials. I can’t tell you how many times I see cyclists zip right through intersections and not even slow down. I agree cyclists are at a disadvantage because anyone can see cars are much bigger and the driver is enclosed. I also think motorists should be especially alert when sharing the road with a cyclist but cyclists need to remember to follow the rules of the road and hopefully gain more respect.
