INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Miami and Ohio State football teams are outperforming their big rivals in the classroom.

Both made the NCAA’s list of 954 teams that have overachieved academically, released Thursday. It was welcome news for two schools that have faced embarrassing investigations recently. The NCAA annually recognizes all teams with perfect scores of 1,000 and those that finish among the top 10 percent in their sport’s Academic Progress Rate. This year’s data covers the four-year period from 2007-11.

Each player on each team can earn one point per semester for remaining academically eligible and another point for staying in school, for a maximum of four points per player.

Ohio State had a score of 988, while Miami had a 980. The NCAA plans to release all APR scores next Wednesday.
