The Riverview Six to Sunset concert series kicks off Thursday, July 5, with Beatles tribute band Abbey Road in downtown Vancouver’s Esther Short Park, Eighth and Esther streets.
Six to Sunset marks 26 years of showcasing musical acts for free. The series will run for six weeks with performances from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday night.
The schedule continues with Hit Machine on July 12, Patrick Lamb Band on July 19, Journey tribute band Stone in Love on July 26, Tom Petty tribute band Petty Fever on Aug. 2, and Radical Revolution on Aug. 9.
Also rocking Esther Short Park will be the Terry Lee Noon Concerts, which begin Wednesday, July 11. Along with performances, the Water Resources Education Center will offer Science in the Park and the National Park Service will be on hand for History in the Park, featuring themed learning activities for children.
The hourlong noon concerts feature the Shwing Daddies on July 11, Justin Klump on July 18, Key of Dreams on July 25, JVA on Aug. 1, Aaron Meyer on Aug. 8, and the New Iberians on Aug. 15.
Rounding out the summer fun will be Friday Night Movies in the Park, featuring the Jack Black comedy “School of Rock” on July 6, dinosaur adventure “Jurassic Park” on July 13, and animated robot romance “Wall-E” on July 20 in Esther Short Park. The movie series continues in LeRoy Haagen Community Park at 136th Avenue and Ninth Street in east Vancouver, with Johnny Depp’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” on July 27 and family classic “E.T.” on Aug. 3. All movies will begin at dusk; blankets and beach chairs are encouraged.
Each of the three summer series are free, with food vendors offering snacks and beverages during the events.
