CLEVELAND (AP) — The radio voice of the Cleveland Indians for 23 seasons, Tom Hamilton left the broadcast booth this weekend to cheer for a team even closer to his heart.

Hamilton’s son, Nick, is a designated hitter for Kent State, which has made an improbable and historic run to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. The Golden Flashes will play Arkansas on Saturday in the double-elimination tournament. Hamilton will be there to cheer on his son, who was drafted this month by the Indians.

Hamilton called Friday’s game home against Pittsburgh before flying to Omaha, where he’ll be joined by his wife, Wendy, the couple’s three other children and Hamilton’s three brothers, who are also bringing their families.

Hamilton described the run Kent State and his family are enjoying as a “fairytale you don’t want to end.”
