North Salmon Creek — High school students in Washington and Oregon donate nearly 25,000 pints of blood each year, but when the school year ends, the American Red Cross typically sees a decline in donations. There’s a program in place to keep the blood flowing — and Skyview High School has won the American Red Cross High School Challenge by having the highest percentage of eligible blood donors in its division actually open a vein (nearly 15 percent, or 157 out of 1,055 students). A traveling trophy will park at the school for one year. Visit redcrossblood.org to learn more.
