INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Fever have acquired shooting guard Roneeka Hodges from the San Antonio Silver Stars in exchange for forward Tangela Smith.

The Fever announced the deal Thursday.

Indiana acquired Smith as a free agent in 2011. She started 32 of Indiana’s 34 games and averaged 7.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in her lone season with the Fever. The 14-year veteran has played in 448 games, the most in WNBA history.

Hodges appeared in 28 regular season games with five starts for the Silver Stars in 2011. She averaged 3.9 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. Her twin sister, Doneeka, played for the Fever at the end of the 2008 season.

Fever coach Lin Dunn says the team needed to get younger and clear salary cap room.
