Norfolk State holds off North Carolina A&T 72-65

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Kyle O’Quinn had 14 points and 13 rebounds for his 19th double-double of the season as Norfolk State held off North Carolina A&T 72-65 Thursday night for its fourth straight win in the regular-season finale for both teams.

The Spartans (22-9, 13-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led by 15 in the second half and were up 66-56 with 2:25 to go.

The Aggies then used a 9-2 run, with two 3-pointers by Jared Williams and one by Adrian Powell, to make it 68-65 with 53 seconds remaining.

North Carolina A&T missed three field goals, including two 3-pointers, down the stretch as the Spartans went 2 of 6 from the free-throw line. Marcos Tamaras’ layup capped the scoring.

Norfolk State outshot the Aggies 50.9 percent (28 of 55) to 36.1 percent (22 of 61).

Powell and Austin Witter scored 11 apiece for North Carolina A&T (12-19, 7-10), which lost its third straight.
