Detroit ousts Youngstown State from Horizon 93-76

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Ray McCallum scored 22 points as Detroit shot 60 percent and defeated Youngstown State 93-76 in the Horizon League tournament quarterfinals Friday night.

Chase Simon added 14 points for the third-seeded Titans (20-13), who will face second-seeded Cleveland State in the semifinals Saturday night.

LaMarcus Lowe contributed 13 points and Doug Anderson and Eli Holman 11 each as Detroit sank 33 of 55 shots. Holman’s total pushed him to 1,003 for his career. McCallum had seven assists.

Damian Eargle tied his career high with 25 points for the sixth-seeded Penguins (16-15). DuShawn Brooks added 19 and Kendrick Perry 18, and Eargle had seven rebounds.

The Titans blazed out of the gate, hitting 11 of their first 14 shots for a 29-10 lead. They were ahead 50-34 at intermission.

The Penguins, who shot 55 percent, climbed within 10 three times in the second half but could not close the gap.
