Letter: Another chance to play ball?

Two summers ago, we said good-bye to Portland Beavers baseball. There is no reason Portland could not house the Beavers today because we know from their departure and the Yakima hype that there are still hopefuls in the area. Seventeen months later, we’re still without a team and, coincidently, our Beavers are still without a home.

The Beavers, now the Tucson Padres, are for sale as of Dec. 30. This came about after the California Supreme Court ruled against the construction of the proposed Escondido Stadium. Owner Jeff Moorad is looking for a city. Write to him. Get excited about this. It could be our greatest opportunity. Remember, it wasn’t our fault that they left; they were kicked out. Think positive.

It’s a long haul, but Portland Mayor Sam Adams has said he will not be running for re-election. Voting for a candidate who cares about baseball can bring it back. I encourage everyone to spread the news that the Beavers are for sale again. This situation needs to be brought to the public’s eye and talked about.

We want the Beavers back. This would be a dream come true. Don’t lose faith. Join the Facebook page at “Believe In Triple-A Portland/Vancouver.”
