Morgan leads Massachusetts over Rhode Island 89-83

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Jesse Morgan and Chaz Williams scored 16 points in the second half to lead Massachusetts’ second-half rally in an 89-83 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.

The Minutemen (20-10, 9-7 Atlantic 10 Conference) led 44-43 at halftime and fell behind 72-71 with 6:48 remaining. They then scored 12 straight, seven by Williams including a 3-pointer to put the Minutemen ahead 83-72 with 4:01 to play.

Morgan made all six of his field goals and Sean Carter scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half. Morgan finished with 25 points and Carter had 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Rhode Island (7-24, 4-12) outshot the Minutemen 43.7 percent (31 of 71) to 42.6 percent (15 of 34) but turned it over 15 times, leading to 23 points.

Orion Outerbridge scored 24 points and Jonathan Holton had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Rams.
