OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A Lewis-McChord soldier accused of setting his wife on fire was acquitted Tuesday in Olympia of attempted murder but convicted of arson.
The Olympian reports ( http://is.gd/pmUTxe ) 35-year-old Duane Michael Rader also was convicted in Thurston County Superior Court of felony harassment, unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault.
The couple had been married six weeks in February 2011 when prosecutors said Rader poured lighter fluid on his wife’s legs, lit a match and caused second-degree burns.
The defense lawyer said Rader’s wife initially reported she burned herself. Six months later, after the couple separated, she reported she had been attacked.
