Washougal — The railroad crossing at 32nd Street near Evergreen Way will get a pedestrian sidewalk. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission has approved $20,000 from its Grade Crossing Protective Fund to pay for upgrades where the BNSF Railway crosses 32nd. BNSF has proposed installing a pedestrian sidewalk on the west side of the crossing to increase overall safety. According to a statement from UTC, the cost of the project is approximately $76,000; the city will pay the difference. Vehicle traffic at the three-lane roadway averages 10,000 cars per day, including 13 school buses.
