SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Chris Wondolowski scored in the 15th minute to help the San Jose Earthquakes beat the New England Revolution 1-0 on Saturday night in season opener for both teams.

It was the Earthquakes’ first win in a home opener since entering the league as an expansion team in 2008. San Jose lost its four previous home openers by a combined score of 6-0.

Wondolowski, who tied for the MLS lead last season with 16 goals, extended his scoring streak to six games.

Shea Salinas set up the goal by jumping on an errant pass from Revolution captain Sharlie Joseph inside New England’s half of the field. Salinas quickly slipped a through ball to Wondolowski. The U.S. international took one touch and fired a shot past goalkeeper Matt Reis from just outside the penalty box.
