NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Wide receiver Marques Colston says it was important to him to be back with the Saints and now he will be.
Colston and the Saints say they have agreed to a new five-year contract.
General manager Mickey Loomis says the 28-year-old Colston is everything the Saints want as both a player and a person and that the receiver deserves credit for working to get a deal done before the opening of free agency on Tuesday afternoon. Financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed.
The 6-foot-4 Colston was a seventh-round draft pick of the Saints in 2006 and quickly emerged as a favorite target for quarterback Drew Brees.
Colston has amassed more than 1,000 yards receiving in five of his six seasons in the NFL.
