Central Park — Five Clark College Running Start students, who comprise the “Salmon Creek Gnathostomata” ocean science bowl team, competed in the Salmon Bowl, the regional competition of the National Ocean Science Bowl, at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., on March 3. Teams are tested on their knowledge of scientific and technical ocean disciplines through quick-answer, buzzer questions and more complex team-challenge questions. Team members Wilven Smoody, Kirben Smoody, Jennica Krohn, Noah Collins and Courtney Tipton met the eight-time defending Salmon Bowl champs, Neah-Kah-Nie High School from Rockaway Beach, Ore., and lost in a respectable match.
