2 killed in plane crash in Columbia County, OR

SAINT HELENS, Ore. (AP) -- Two people have been killed in a small plane crash on the Oregon side of the Columbia River south of Longview, Wash.

Columbia County Sheriff Jeff Dickerson says it appears to be a high-velocity crash that killed both on impact.

Dickerson says 47-year-old Camas flight instructor Todd Norrish and a 17-year-old student pilot who took off Wednesday evening in a Cessna 150 from Pearson Field Airport in Vancouver.

The Camas man's wife had reported him overdue. Authorities also received a signal from an emergency location transponder.

The search began Wednesday night, and Columbia County searchers found the wreckage about 3:30 a.m. Thursday in a hay field near Goble.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating. The plane is registered to the Aero Maintenance company at Pearson Field.
