SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The U.S. State Department says North Korea’s planned rocket launch is “highly provocative” and would directly violate the North’s international obligations.
North Korea in a surprise announcement Friday said it plans to launch a satellite into space on the back of a long-range rocket in April.
Going ahead with the launch could jeopardize a weeks-old agreement with the U.S. that exchanges food aid for nuclear concessions.
A United Nations resolution bars North Korea from launches using ballistic missile technology.
