ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Olympic breaststoke champion Leisel Jones has become the first Australian swimmer to qualify for four Summer Games.

Jones’ bid to reach London has been overshadowed by Ian Thorpe’s comeback ahead of the national selection trials.

But in the race immediately after the 200-meter freestyle final — that Thorpe stunningly failed to make — Jones succeeded Saturday night in gaining another Olympic spot. She did it despite finishing second to Leiston Pickett in the 100 breaststroke final.

Jones won the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games. She won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics at 15, becoming the youngest Australian to win an Olympic swimming medal.
