RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Rio de Janeiro authorities say Brazil coach Mano Menezes has refused to take a breathalyzer test after being stopped at a police checkpoint.

A statement released to local media by the Rio state government says the 49-year-old coach also didn’t have his driver’s license with him. His wife later gave police a copy of his license.

Menezes is allowed by Brazilian law to refuse the breathalyzer test, but by doing so he incurred a $550 fine.

Menezes was stopped shortly after midnight Wednesday. His spokesman could not immediately be contacted.
