CRESCENT LAKE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon state troopers investigating a link to a missing person case from northeast Oregon say they’re negotiating with a man holding a woman hostage at a cabin in Southern Oregon.

Oregon State Police didn’t identify the two people, but the Umatilla County sheriff’s office said Tuesday that police found a car at Crescent Lake associated with the kidnapping of a Hermiston woman missing since Thursday.

A statement from the State Police said negotiators are talking to the people inside the cabin, and “there are no known injuries to anyone involved.”

Melody Kaye Mickel, a 26-year-old drugstore employee, is believed to have gotten into a car last week with her former boyfriend, 28-year-old agricultural worker Alberto Quiroz Martinez. Martinez has served time for kidnapping and attempted rape convictions.
