Letter: New plates are not needed

In his April 17 letter, “Olympia takes license with ‘fees,’” Paul E. Nelson said the purchase of a new auto license plate every seven years isn’t necessary. I, too, think it’s a money-making scam. For one, I see older license plates from other states all the time. Second, for an extra $20 they’ll let you keep your old one. If you can do that, doesn’t that contradict the whole purpose? You can’t have them unless you pay.
