NEW YORK (AP) — Eric Chavez was activated from the disabled list by the New York Yankees and was in the starting lineup at designated hitter for Friday night’s series opener against the Seattle Mariners.

To clear a roster spot, the Yankees optioned Eduardo Nunez to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, a day after he made two errors at third base against Tampa Bay.

Chavez had been on the seven-day concussion DL since May 3. He was hurt a day earlier diving for a double down the third-base line by Baltimore’s J.J. Hardy. Chavez says he had been working out since Tuesday and has no concussion symptoms.
