EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Officials believe a University of Oregon student has died of bacterial meningitis.

Spokeswoman Julie Brown says the university is working with public health officials to identify other who may have had close contact with the student. She tells KVAL (http://bit.ly/Jmckpb) that about 100 people are receiving preventive medication.

Officials are not releasing the name or age of the student, who died on Friday.

Brown says privacy laws prohibit her from saying whether the student was part of any campus organizations, but she says a number of members of the Chi Omega sorority were receiving the preventive medication.
