A fire burned through an abandoned home in the Fourth Plain Village neighborhood early Thursday, officials said.
The fire was reported just before 4 a.m. at 2413 Rossiter Lane, according to emergency dispatch logs.
The Vancouver Fire Department, American Medical Response and the Vancouver Police Department responded.
When firefighters arrived, flames were coming out of the single-story home’s windows, said Capt. Scott Blanton, with Vancouver Fire Engine 2.
Because the home was fully involved, abandoned and unoccupied, firefighters let it burn, said Capt. Scott Willis, Vancouver fire spokesman. If no one was in the home, firefighters won’t risk anyone’s life to fight the blaze from inside the home, he said.
Firefighters set up an exterior attack to control the flames, Blanton said. Some crews left early while others stayed on scene to make sure the home didn’t catch fire again.
There were no reported injuries.
The home was still standing around 7:30 a.m. but completely charred and full of debris.
The home is owned by Suresh C. Paranjpe, according to county property records.
A Vancouver fire marshal is investigating.
