2 maritime workers killed in Seattle accidents

SEATTLE (AP) -- A forklift driver at the Port of Seattle and a worker pressure-washing on a boat at a shipyard were killed in separate accidents Thursday in Seattle.

State Department of Labor and Industries spokesman Hector Castro says the fork lift operator was crushed between the fork lift and a container at SSA Marine at Terminal 18. Fire Department medics took him to Harborview Medical Center where he died.

The Seattle Times reports (http://is.gd/jzkszN ) the Longshore Union shut down Terminal 18 for 24 hours because of the death.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of the worker in the pressure washing accident. It took place aboard a moored vessel and may have involved carbon dioxide poisoning.
