GATES, Ore. (AP) — Sheriff’s officers say rescue crews have recovered one body from the North Santiam River near Gates, Ore., while a second person is missing in the river.
The Oregonian reports that the Linn County sheriff’s office said late Friday that ground and aerial teams had suspended the search for a second person and planned to resume looking on Saturday. One adult and one child were believed to be involved; it was not immediately clear who had been found.
Marion County sheriff’s Commander Kevin Schultz says the initial call for help Friday afternoon indicated three people were in the water near Niagara Park. He says one person made it out of the river.
The area is about 40 miles east of Salem.
