CLEVELAND (AP) — The Miami Marlins have placed outfielder Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained left thumb.

Miami recalled outfielder Chris Coghlan and selected the contract of infielder Donovan Solano from Triple-A New Orleans prior to Sunday’s game against the Indians.

First baseman Gaby Sanchez, who was on the NL All-Star team last season, was optioned to New Orleans following Saturday’s game.

Infielder Omar Infante has returned to his native Venezuela because of a death in the family. Infante was in Sunday’s lineup, but was replaced at second base by Donnie Murphy.

Bonifacio, who leads the majors with 20 stolen bases, jammed his hand on a dive back to first base Friday. He then was thrown out by catcher Carlos Santana, the first time Bonifacio has been caught stealing this season.

Bonifacio, a switch hitter, is batting .268. Sanchez was batting .197 with one homer and 11 RBIs.
