EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Cedar Grove Composting canceled plans Thursday for a $20 million expansion at an Everett site that would have used methane gas from food and yard waste to generate electricity.
The company says the project is no longer financially feasible because the city of Everett and the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency decided Wednesday that Cedar Grove needed to complete a full environmental study.
Cedar Grove says it will move forward with smaller digester projects and has begun discussions with large institutions that generate organic waste.
Neighbors of the Everett site have complained about odor from Cedar Grove compost.
