MUKILTEO, Wash. (AP) — A Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman says a man, a woman and a dog were rescued from a sinking sailboat near Mukilteo, Wash.

The Daily Herald reports (http://is.gd/TTOdwA ) that the 24-foot boat was about a mile northwest of the Mukilteo ferry dock when it started taking on water late Thursday night.

Fire spokeswoman Leslie Hynes says the couple, who appeared to be in their 20s, were cold and wet but unhurt. The dog was also unhurt.

Hynes says firefighters tried to tow the boat to the Port of Everett marina but it was taking on too much water. The boat later sank.

The Coast Guard also was involved in the rescue.
