SHANGHAI, China (AP) — Former Argentina coach Sergio Batista appears poised to sign with Chinese Super League team Shanghai Shenhua.

The club said on its website Tuesday that it will introduce a new coach at a news conference on Wednesday. No other details were given.

Batista has been in China since Friday and met Monday with Shenhua’s star signing, former Chelsea player Nicolas Anelka, who has been leading a five-man coaching lineup since the departure of Jean Tigana of France last month.

Chinese teams have recently begun emerging from years of poor management and match fixing scandals to spend big on foreign coaches and players.

Among the recent signings, Marcello Lippi was hired this month to coach Chinese Super League team Guangzhou Evergrande.
