PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY’-fee) says his comments aren’t responsible for the financial woes facing former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s video game company.

Chafee said Tuesday that Schilling was “not accurate” when he told The Providence Journal that Chafee’s remarks about 38 Studios’ solvency prompted a potential investor to pull out of a $35 million deal to finance a new game.

Chafee says his comments were only meant to inform taxpayers.

Schilling also says the state reneged on promised film tax credits. Officials say they’re still reviewing the company’s request.

38 Studios was lured to Rhode Island in 2010 with a $75 million loan guarantee. The company laid off its staff last week.
