PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Search crews have found the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in southeast Oregon last week.

Klamath County Sheriff Tim Evinger says the plane and the body of pilot Tony Nicholls were found Wednesday afternoon on the west-facing side of Hart Mountain — 13 miles northeast of Plush.

The 48-year-old pilot from Meridian, Idaho, flew his two stepsons to Lakeview, Ore., on Thursday and was to return home that day because his daughter was graduating from high school over the weekend.

There were snow showers and gusty winds in the region at the time of departure.

Searchers looking for the 1978 Grumman “Cheetah” aircraft in recent days covered a vast area reaching into Nevada and California.
