Vancouver to weigh budget, increases to utility rates

The Vancouver City Council will discuss the city’s 2013-14 budget and consider increases in several utility user rates this week.

The council meets at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St. The council will next discuss the budget in public hearings at its Nov. 19 meeting.

This Monday, the council will consider the following:

• A 1 percent increase in the property tax levy, as allowed by state law, for 2013.

• A 1.5 percent increase in rates for collecting solid waste, recyclable materials and yard debris.

• A 5 percent increase in water and surface-water user rates for 2013 and 2014, and a 2.5 percent increase in sewer rates for 2013 and 2014.

• A 2013-14 biennial budget appropriating $752.4 million for operating and capital budgets.
