Letter: Far right running GOP to the edge

The Columbian
Published: November 7, 2012, 4:00pm

By 10 p.m. on election night, Mitt Romney conceded the presidency to Barack Obama. I am pleased.

Now comes the bellyaching, backbiting, and finger-pointing by the right as to why Romney lost. What they refuse to see is that as long as they remain in bed with the extremists in their party who openly dismiss women, dislike minorities, and abhor gays and lesbians, they will continue to slide into oblivion. Romney had no backbone with these people, and he let them run roughshod over him, which cost him any chance at this election.

Over the past 100 years, the far right has been on the wrong side of history when it comes to basic civil and human rights, but they somehow bill themselves as the experts and sole caretakers of morality and family values. This is just plain crazy.

Why does the Republican Party allow these people to dominate their campaign strategies? I don’t have a clue, but I hope they continue doing it.

It should make for many more pleasant election nights for me.
