A Vancouver man was arrested on suspicion of DUII late Tuesday after crashing his car on the MAX tracks in Beaverton, Ore., police said.

Jeff John Roberton, 27, was also arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and first-degree criminal mischief, according to a Beaverton Police Department news release.

Police responded to the crash at 11:13 p.m. Tuesday after hearing reports of a car crashing on the MAX tracks near the tunnel to the Sunset Transit Center, police said.

Officers arrived and found a black BMW and a tree on the tracks, according to the release. Police suspect the BMW left the road when the driver tried to take the exit from westbound Highway 26 to Highway 217 southbound.

Police said an officer spotted a BMW traveling at a “high rate of speed” on Highway 26 minutes before the crash.

TriMet said the Blue and Red Line service between downtown Portland and the Beaverton Transit Center would be delayed until early Wednesday evening. A shuttle bus served stops in the area.
