Western Carolina slips by Howard 69-67

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Tom Tankelewicz made two free throws in the final seconds to give Western Carolina a 69-67 victory over Howard on Wednesday night in the Cancun Challenge semifinals.

Tankelewicz scored 17 points, including two free throws to win the game at the 0.01 mark. He also made five 3-pointers.

Tawaski King led Western Carolina with 19 points. Trey Sumler scored 17 points and led the team in assists with six. Boggs added 11 and 5 rebounds. Western Carolina (2-4) shot 46 percent from the floor and 80 percent at the free throw line.

Simuel Frazier tied the game at 67 with a layup with .09 left in the game. After a timeout by Western Carolina, a foul was called on Frazier. Tankelewicz hit the free throws.

Frazier scored 23 points for the Bison (0-5). Prince Okoroh scored 17 and Tre Lee added 14. Mike Phillips had seven rebounds and eight points.
