Jacksonville St. tops NC A&T 54-50 in overtime

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tarvin Gaines scored 17 points and Brian Williams hit four straight free throws in the final minute of overtime, helping Jacksonville State defeat North Carolina A&T 54-50 Saturday at the Global Sports Classic.

A free throw by North Carolina A&T’s DaMetrius Upchurch tied the game at 50 with 57 seconds left in OT before Williams was fouled and went to the line. He hit two free throws with 46 seconds remaining and two more with 19 seconds left to finish with seven points in the game.

Darion Rackley added 14 points for the Gamecocks (5-2), including a pair of free throws with 42 seconds left in regulation that tied the game.

Adrian Powell and Jean Louisme each had 11 points for the Aggies (2-5).

Jacksonville State shot just 35 percent from the floor but converted 19 of 22 free-throws attempts — all after halftime.
