YWCA Clark County has welcomed two new members to the board of directors. The Rev. Marva Edwards was sworn in at the August board meeting, and Leslie Runyan was sworn in Sept. 26.

Edwards received a Women of Achievement award in 2010. She has worked on a cultural immersion program with the African-American Rites of Passage, and has served in multiple leadership roles for the Vancouver branch of the NAACP. She’s worked with domestic violence offenders and has volunteered with YWCA’s hate incidents and crimes group. She studied at Indiana State University, Clark College and Concordia University, where she earned a degree in theology. In 2005, Edwards founded the New Life AME Zion Church.

Runyan and her husband, Erik, operate a family-owned jewelry store in downtown Vancouver. She’s held a leadership position with the Columbia River Yacht Club; she has served on the Evergreen School District Foundation, Children’s Trust Auxiliary and SWIFT. She graduated from Central Washington University with a degree in retail management.

Edwards and Runyan join 16 other board members.
