Woods beats McIlroy by 6 strokes in Turkey

BELEK, Turkey (AP) — Tiger Woods beat Rory McIlroy by six strokes Thursday in their first head-to-head match to advance to the semifinals of the World Golf Finals.

McIlroy, the world’s top-ranked player, was eliminated from the $5.2 million exhibition after losing his third consecutive group match.

Woods shot 7-under 64 and will face Justin Rose in the semifinals later Thursday. Rose posted a course-record 62 to beat U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson by five shots.

Charl Schwartzel shot 8-under 63 to defeat American Matt Kuchar by two strokes for his third straight win. The South African will next play Lee Westwood, who shot 64 to beat Hunter Mahan by three strokes.

The winner of the event will receive $1.5 million.
