Jackson, Appalachian State outlast Samford 28-25

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Jamal Jackson threw two touchdowns and running back Steven Miller racked up 186 all-purpose yards Saturday in Appalachian State’s 28-25 win over Samford in Southern Conference action.

Appalachian State (5-2, 3-1) built a 21-10 halftime lead behind Jackson’s first touchdown pass of the day, a 48-yarder to Miller.

Miller finished with 88 yards rushing and set career highs for receptions (6) and receiving yards (98) for the second consecutive week.

Samford (5-2, 3-2), which was held scoreless in the second and third quarters, exploded for 15 points in the fourth quarter and took a 25-21 lead with 7:37 left to play.

Jackson, however, capped off a 7-play, 80-yard drive on the Mountaineers’ final possession of the game with a 22-yard touchdown strike to Sean Price with 22 seconds showing on the clock. Jackson completed 3 of 6 passes and ran for 17 yards on the drive, including two to Price.
