KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Michael Parkhurst is starting at left back and Carlos Bocanegra is shifting to central defense for the United States against Guatemala in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night.

Bocanegra struggled on the left side in the Americans’ ragged 2-1 win last Friday over Antigua and Barbuda, a victory that wasn’t assured until Eddie Johnson’s goal in the 90th minute.

Johnson is in the lineup again for the U.S., which can advance to the final round of regional qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with a win or draw. Even with a loss, the U.S. would advance if Jamaica is unable to convincingly beat Antigua and Barbuda.

Clarence Goodson is out of the lineup for the U.S. He fell down in last Friday’s game, leading to Antigua and Barbuda’s lone goal.
