FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay will be honored in his hometown of Fort Lauderdale with a public celebration next Wednesday.

The three-hour street party will be highlighted with a proclamation from Mayor Jack Seiler.

It’s part of a busy three days for Hunter-Reay, who will open next week with a visit to DHL headquarters in Plantation on Monday to celebrate his championship with employees and management. DHL has been co-primary sponsor for Hunter-Reay the last two seasons.

On Tuesday, he’ll participate in a closed Firestone test at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It will be Hunter-Reay’s first time driving the No. 28 Andretti Autosport Chevrolet since he won his first IndyCar championship in the Sept. 15 season finale.

Hunter-Reay became the first American since 2006 to win the title.
