Meetings set to discuss Gifford Pinchot forest roads

YALE — A public meeting to gather information about the Gifford Pinchot National Forest road system will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at Yale School gymnasium, 11842 Lewis River Road.

It is the first of six public sessions to identify sustainable forest road systems by 2015. The analysis will integrate access needs with environmental risks and expected budgets.

Additional meetings, all starting at 6 p.m., will be Sept. 20 at the White Salmon Fire Hall, 119 N.E. Church St., White Salmon; Sept. 26 at the Pinchot headquarters, 10600 N.E. 51st Circle; Oct. 1, Randle Fire Hall, 9978 U.S. Highway 12, Randle; Oct. 4, Rock Creek auditorium in Stevenson; and Oct. 18, Centralia Community College cafeteria, 600 Centralia College Blvd., Centralia.

A questionnaire is available through Dec. 31 as an alternative way to provide input to the GPNF roads analysis. The questionnaire can be found at http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/giffordpinchot/landmanagement?cid=stelprdb5388890.

Participants may print, fill out and mail hard-copy questionnaires to c/o Ken Sandusky 10600 N.E. 51th Circle, Vancouver, 98682.
