LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Cody Stroud threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score, and McNeese State capitalized on a sloppy game from McMurry, a Division II opponent, in a 69-7 beating on Saturday night.
Stroud’s 1-yard run for a score and 10-yard touchdown pass to Damion Dixon broke the game open early, as the Cowboys (2-0) went up 21-0 after the opening quarter. McNeese State, a Football Championship Subdivision team, then pushed that lead to 45-0 at halftime and 59-0 with 3:49 left in the third quarter on Dillon Berlin’s 5-yard scoring scamper.
Brady Lambert tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Clinton McCoy for the first and only score for the Indians (0-2). He came on in relief of starting quarterback Jake Mullin after he threw three interceptions, two of which were returned for scores.
The Cowboys outgained the Indians 484-246 and capitalized on four McMurry turnovers in the contest.
