Local agencies hold 9/11 observances
Firefighters planted 304 flags at the Hockinson station. The 300 smaller flags each represent 10 people who died, while four larger flags represent the four sites that were attacked: two in New York, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pa.

Several events will be held Tuesday over the span of 13 hours to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. All observances are open to the public.
• At 6:58 a.m. in Hockinson, Fire District 3 will hold a memorial ceremony. District personnel will be in formation at the station at 17718 N.E. 159th St.
• At 8 a.m., Camas/Washougal firefighters will hold a ceremony outside the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave. Firefighters Local 2444 will host a breakfast in the library.
• At 8:40 a.m., Vancouver's police and fire departments will host a ceremony outside City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St., on the east side of the building.
• At 8 p.m., East County Fire & Rescue's ceremony will include the lighting of a display and a reading of the names of the 343 New York City firefighters who died in the attacks. The event at Station 91, 600 N.E. 267th Ave. in Camas, also includes a spaghetti dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to help local charities.
