John Main and Sandra Day were sworn in Thursday, Sept. 13, as members of the Ridgefield City Council.

Main, 48, and Day, 66, were appointed at a special city council meeting. They will serve until the next municipal election in November 2013.

The city council made the appointments after interviewing seven applicants.

Main and his family moved to Ridgefield in 2007; he has served on the planning commission since 2010.

Day has lived in Ridgefield since 2008, has volunteered for a number of organizations and brings extensive corporate and nonprofit experience to the city council, according to a city news release.

“John and Sandra will bring new perspectives to the Ridgefield City Council and we look forward to their contributions,” Mayor Ron Onslow said in the news release. “We are facing a diverse set of issues as we grow, and the two new council members can only help us address them in a more effective way.

“We were also extremely pleased that seven very qualified residents stepped forward to serve the community,” Onslow said. “There are plenty of opportunities for them, and others, to be involved.”
