United's Josh Wolff has surgery for herniated disc

WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. United forward and assistant coach Josh Wolff has undergone surgery on his lower back.

United announced Tuesday that the operation repaired a herniated disc. The club did not give a timeframe for Wolff's return.

Wolff has played in nine games this season, making his last appearance Aug. 11. He began serving as an assistant coach in March.

The 35-year-old is in his 14th MLS season. He also represented the U.S. at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
