Letter: Coal exports have many problems

The Columbian
Published: September 18, 2012, 5:00pm

In Don Brunell’s pro-coal messages in his Sept. 12 column, “Coal foes trying to railroad public,” he is failing to look at the big picture.

Of course, to the Business page columnist, any business growth, no matter how onerous to the communities impacted, is a great thing.

There are thousands of people living in the Pacific Northwest who would disagree with his position.

There is zero benefit to Clark County with coal exports proceeding and numerous costs to the taxpayers here.

There must be a comprehensive review of all these proposals from the mines, to the atmosphere, and into the food chain and the lungs of the people of the world.

Brunell’s narrow viewpoint is not fooling anyone, except maybe the climate-change denying few who just choose to ignore science.
