Letter: Bully tactics inspired involvement

A letter titled “Dear Friends and Motorists, Good Citizens of Carter Park” was left on the doorstep of homes in the neighborhood, delivered in the predawn hours. The author blamed the Obama administration’s stance on the Keystone Pipeline for gas being $4.09 per gallon and that “some of us threw tomatoes on the roof of a house in the neighborhood at 4:AM — a house that has an Obama sign in the yard.” The letter was signed “Yours Very Cordially, $62.91 for my last fill-up.”

I have never been politically active, so I have to thank “$62.91 for my last fill-up” for encouraging me to become involved; I am more resolved in my beliefs than ever before. I got a political sign for my yard, something I would have never done before.

“$62.91 for my last fill-up” did respond to my political sign as I thought he would. He threw tomatoes at my house in the wee hours. I have met with other “good citizens of Carter Park,” and regardless of their political views, none of them feels that sneaking around in the dark and throwing tomatoes at houses is appropriate behavior. I hope others are not intimidated and take this opportunity to get involved.

Unlike “$62.91 for my last fill-up,” I’ll use my real name.
