Volunteers are being sought to take part in the annual Lacamas Lake Cleanup Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Participants should meet at Heritage Park boat launch on Northwest Lake Road, to help pick up litter and debris from around the lake. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided. Volunteers should bring waterproof boots.

Refreshments, including water, coffee and food, will be served and prizes will be awarded.

The Lacamas Lake Cleanup began as a grass roots effort 16 years ago by the Lacamas Shores Homeowners Association. Boaters and trailers would pick up litter around the lake, but there had previously not been a day devoted to cleaning up the lake.

Over the years, the effort grew to become a community wide event. Area businesses have joined the effort to supply gloves, bags and refreshments for participants.

In 2011, more than 190 volunteers picked up 18 yards (nine, 2-yard dumpsters) of trash totaling approximately 1.5 tons and one 65-gallon can of recyclables.
